Life Lately: Hello Again!

So if you noticed, I haven’t really blogged since I wrote my post on my November goals. I was really busy with my last month of work, hanging out with friends, Thanksgiving, and finishing my internship (eep!), which all took precedence over blogging. After that, I was stressed about the holidays and job hunting.

As I’ve said before (or maybe I’ve just written it to myself), I only write when I feel like it; I don’t force it because then the finished product sounds forced. While this doesn’t make for a famous blogger in the making, it does make for a happy Alex, which I think is much more important!

But now, as it is the first day of the new year (2017 already?!) I decided to turn over a new leaf and make an appearance!

Since I last wrote, I wanted to blog twice a week.

That obviously didn’t happen, and here we are at the beginning of the year and I’m writing to you all again after quite the long absence!

I wanted to go on a day trip…I did that!

mohonk mountain house

My friend Ayme and I went upstate (the furthest north in North America that I’ve been!) to New Paltz to visit Mohonk Mountain House. While the weather was frigid, the colours outside were beautiful and it was nice to get out of NYC for the first time since the summer. I hope to take some more day trips in the future, although I’m not quite sure how snow will play into it!

I grew my Instagram…to 20,000+ followers.

I am floored. I had no idea that 20,000 people would even want to follow me, but it has given me greater motivation to keep taking pictures and exploring the city in which I live.

I finished at the UN!

I still can’t believe that I am finished at the UN. I will have to write a post solely dedicated to this in the future, but I am so grateful for the experiences I had whilst I was there. So many amazing people, quite a few celebrities and world leaders, and many things I’ll never forget. While I’m still searching for a full-time job, I’ve got a few freelance gigs to tide me over while I wait and search!

It’s no longer autumn…but I did take autumn pictures!

Gone are the colourful leaves and crisp, chilly days. I tried, howeve,  to take as many autumn pictures so I can reminisce when I’m dreading going outside in the cold. Now, NYC has shed all its leaves and things are much greyer, including the sky. That means, however, that Christmas decorations are everywhere and have taken over the city! They definitely make the grey, cold days and super long nights much better. If only they could stay throughout the entire winter to cheer everyone up just a little bit!

Visitors, friends, and touristy things!

I’ve been graced to have some pretty great people visit me here in NYC. I’ve also made some pretty great friends in the city. I’ve taken advantage of these visitors and friends and done some touristy things in the city: Christmas markets, Christmas light sightseeing, Columbia, Lincoln Center, Central Park wanderings, FOOD, and much more. I definitely had a busy last few weeks!

It snowed!

I had my first real, albeit extremely short, NYC snowfall! My parents were in town and I made them traverse all over Central Park so I could frolick in the snow and take pretty pictures. Most of the snow had melted by the early afternoon, so I was glad to take advantage of it while I could. I can’t wait for more!

It’s now 2017!

Wow, I can’t believe 2016 is already over. I spent my New Years Eve alone in my apartment with what seemed like a private fireworks show over Central Park. It was a tad lonely but still lovely!
